Betty Blankenship, 89, of Ironton, OH passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland, KY. Betty was born in Scioto County, OH July 27, 1929, daughter of the late Samuel E. and Laura Riddlebarger.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Blankenship; a brother, Elmer (June) Riddlebarger; three sisters, Helen Murphy, Faye Riddlebarger and Emma Jean Webb; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Clyde Littlejohn; two step-daughters, Louise Noe and Rosemary Dillon; and step-son, Joe (Sonny) Blankenship.
She is survived by two sons, John (Donna) Blankenship of Kitts Hill, OH, Jeff (Modena Grigsby) Blankenship and daughter, Laura Jean Moore, both of Ironton, OH; a step-son, Jim Blankenship of Colorado; and a step-daughter, Carolyn Bailey of Nevada. Betty leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Especially close to her were Darcy Smith, whom she helped raise and niece, Laura Kay (Jim) Falter, who often surprised her with boxes of goodies and flowers. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Art (Patty) Murphy and family.
Betty was previously employed by The Selby Shoe Factory, Portsmouth, OH and Wilson’s Sporting Goods, Ironton, OH. She attended the Kelley’s Bridge Independent Baptist Church of Ironton, OH.
Funeral service will be 12:00 PM Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, OH with Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow at the Hecla Cemetery.
