Erssie Pearl Black, 93, of South Point, OH, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. She was born August 6, 1924 in Logan County, WV, a daughter of the late Allen Adkins and Agnes Rakes Adkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Vernon “Blackie” Black; a grandson, Scott Snyder; two sisters, Orpha Workman and Diccie Coovert; and four brothers, Don Adkins, Lester Adkins, Franklin Adkins and Karma Adkins. Survivors include three children, Sharon (Lee) Snyder of Lakeland, FL, Fred (Linda) Black of Elyria, OH and Nancy (Brad) Bigger of Huntington, WV; a brother, Robert Adkins of North Port, FL; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and special caregiver Barbara Hardy. A special thank you is expressed to the staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center, especially to nurses Amanda and Deliah; Dr. Janet Wallace; Dr. Jason Hudak; and the staff at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Pastor Derek Washington officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, P.O. Box 464 Huntington, WV 25709.
