    Jay Jervis, 81, of Wayne, WV, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2012. He was home and surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, November 12, 2012 at Salem United Baptist Church, Wayne, WV with Roger Maynard and Tony Clay officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Family Cemetery. From humble beginnings in a Logan County coal camp, he joined the Air Force following graduation from Wayne High School in 1949 and served his country in the Korean War. He continued to serve others, as an educator and Assistant Superintendent for Wayne Co. Schools. He was a graduate of Marshall University. He was a lay minister in the United Baptist Church and had served as Pastor for Salem United Baptist Church, where he was a member. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lou Emma Jervis, his brother Ray Isaac Jervis, parents-in-law Ernie and Susan Wallace, and brother-in-law Ernie Wayne Wallace. Jay was a loving husband of 55 years to Mary Kathryn Wallace Jervis, who survives him. He is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jay T and Rhonda Jervis of Prichard WV, Robert Jervis of Honolulu HI, Joe Jervis of Genoa WV, and John Mark and Nichole Jervis of Wayne; daughters and sons-in- law, Sharon Huffman of Cross Lanes WV, David and Susan Rall of Phoenix AZ, and Dan and Sarah Vunck of Richmond VA, seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Edith Jervis of Dickson WV, Wallace (Wad) Jervis of Ferguson Branch WV, Bobby and Seay Jervis of Wilsons Creek WV. Also surviving, sister and brother-in-law Otis and Lenore Maynard of Jackson, OH and sister Ora Smith of Wayne WV, brothers and sisters-in-law Charlie and Joyce Wallace of Poca WV, Johnnie and Willa Wallace of Huntington WV, and Clyde Wallace. He also had a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington P.O. Box 464 Huntington, WV 25709. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at Salem United Baptist Church, Wayne, WV. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.
