THOMAS COYEN LEDFORD II
South Point, Ohio. Thomas Ledford of South Point, Ohio passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Born March 30, 1931, in Pike County, Ky., he was a son of the late Thomas Coyen Ledford and Fannie Stewart Ledford. Also preceding him in death were his sisters; Edna Redwine, Thelma Rose, Martha Little, Onie Varney, Helen King; and Grandson, Allen Ledford.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth Ann Francisco Ledford; their children, Cindy (Mark) Christian of South Point, Ohio, Tom (Hobie) Ledford of Lexington, Ky., and Jim Ledford of Somerset, Ky.. Seven grandchildren; Angela Ledford, Michael Ledford, Jeremy Ledford, Amanda (Aaron) Lester, Beverly (Chris) Osborne, Kaitlyn Christian, and Cole Christian; His brothers, Thornton (Mary) Ledford, Wayne (Judy) Rose; a sister Ruth Helvey; Four great-grandsons, Dylan and Gabe Lester, and Xavier and Brice Osborne; Many very special nieces, nephews, and friends; Also dear friends, Ronnie and Bonnie West.
Thomas attended Marshall University and was a retired Area Manager for Columbia Gas in the Logan, WV and Williamson, WV areas. While living in Logan, Thomas attended the West Logan Missionary Baptist Church for several years. He was also a founding member of the Calvary Baptist in Chapmanville, WV. Thomas was a current member of the First Southern Baptist Church of South Point, OH where he was a founding member. He served in the United States Marine Corp as a Staff Sergeant and his service to community was extensive. Thomas was a former President of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, as well as ten years on the Board of Directors. He formerly served as President of the Boy Scouts of America/Chief Cornstalk Council in WV for the Logan, Boone, Mingo-Pike area. He was a former President of the Logan Rotary Club, a former chairman of the Logan County Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Gideons in Logan for many years, and he served as a member of the Logan County United Fund Board of Directors. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Logan County Development Corporation including involvement in the development of the Corridor G Highway Project.
He was a true witness for Christ by his walk in this world. His commitment was to make others aware of Jesus. He loved his Lord and Savior and is now in Heaven. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 15, at First Southern Baptist Church in South Point with Ric Frazier and Chuck Price officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Pallbearers will be Tom Ledford, Jeremy Ledford, Aaron Lester, Mark Christian, Cole Christian, Stephen Little, Danny West, and Dale West. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. (5-8:00 p.m. for family) Wednesday at First Southern Baptist in South Point, Ohio. Slack & Wallace Funeral Home of South Point is in charge of the arrangements.
