June Layman Thornburg

August 2, 1934 - April 13, 2018

Mrs. June Layman Thornburg, age 83, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. She was born August 2, 1934 in South Point, OH to the late Carl and Bell Beatty Layman. She lived most of her life in Chesapeake, Ohio until moving to Glennville, Georgia in September 2010. Mrs. June retired from Owens Illinois after 37 years of service. She loved to read, cross-stitch, and make quilt squares for her daughter. She was a faithful member of Sybene Missionary Baptist Church in South Point and attended Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church in Glennville where she was also a member of the Mary Wilkinson Auxiliary. Mrs. June will be remembered as a faithful wife, mother, daughter, sister and a special granny. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 55 years, Mr. Charles B. Thornburg.

She is survived by her loving daughter and son in law, Deborah Thornburg and Rev. Dr. Rick Cason of Glennville, GA; grandson, Blake (Whitney) Cason of Raleigh, NC; great grandsons, Gunnar Cason and Beau Cason (to be born June 1, 2018); sister, Phyllis Casey of South Point, OH, brother in law, Joe Thornburg; sisters in law, Joyce Thornburg of Hayward, CA and Bessie Thornburg of Clemmons, NC; many nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Glennville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from the Chapel of Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point, Ohio with the Reverend Doctor Rick Cason officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning one hour before the service at the funeral home.
