    Russell Coburn, 85 of South Point, OH went to be with the Lord Monday, April 17, 2017 at his residence.  He was born July 14, 1931, a son of the late Charles and Shirley Wright Coburn.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Claris Offill Coburn and four brothers, Joe Coburn, Carl Coburn, Ralph Coburn and Bill Coburn.  He was a charter member and Deacon with First Southern Baptist Church and was retired from American Electric Power.  His 27-year career with AEP started in 1966 as a chemist trainee in the Huntington office.  He went on to found AEP’s General Office Environmental Department.  Prior to his career with AEP, Russ taught chemistry, biology and physics for six years in the Symmes Valley School District.  Russ is survived by his children, Catherine Annette Coburn of South Point, Diana (Brian “Woody”) Woodyard of Chesapeake and David Russell (Paula) Coburn of Franklin Furnace, OH; four sisters, Dorothy Meredith of CA, Shirley Haines of Russellville, KY, Anna Lou Robinson of Deering, OH and Jennifer (Jerry) Vaughn of Ironton, OH; a brother, Kenneth R. Coburn Sr. of Pedro, OH; three grandchildren, Michael (Miranda), Gerrica and Shayna; and two great grandchildren, Landon Michael and Aaliyah Claire.  Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Friday, April 21, 2017 at First Southern Baptist Church, South Point with Rev. Randy Tait and Pastor Paul Michael Booth officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.   Russ had a passion for missions to help spread the Word of God throughout his life.  The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Cheryl and Teresa and to Community Hospice, Ashland.  Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
