Peter Samuel “Sam” Leighty, 78, of South Point, OH passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Jo-Lin Health Center, Ironton, OH. He was born August 24, 1936 in South Point, a son of the late Ryan and Mae Cole Leighty. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Della Mae Leighty and 3 brothers, Don Leighty, Dave Leighty and Tom Leighty. Sam was a graduate of South Point High School, a member of First Baptist Church, South Point, a U S Army veteran and a retired employee of the former Semet Solvay Corp., Ironton. Sam is survived by 5 children, Jennifer (Michael) Webb, Alan C. (Karen) Leighty, Tim (Tonia) Leighty, Leslie Pyles and Pete (Tina) Leighty; 2 sisters, Priscilla Beard and Roberta McWhorter; a brother, Pat (Brenda) Leighty; 13 grandchildren, Christy, Jamie, Travis, Cody, Josh, Nathan, Ashlee, Eric, Justin, Amy, Whitney, Ericka and Michael; and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 1, 2015 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Pastor Tom Jones officiating.
