Henry Wells, 94, of South Point, OH was sent home to be with the Lord, Friday, September 1, 2017. He passed on in his home surrounded by family. He was born June 9, 1923 in Johnson County, KY, the son of the late George Moses Wells and Cora Lee Honeycutt Wells. He is the remaining child of 7 brothers, and 5 sisters. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheri Jean Wells and his first wife of 53 years, Roberta Leveda Rice Wells. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Mildred Gwendolyn Hall Craddock Wells of South Point; one son, Mike (Becky) Wells; two daughters, Connie (Brownie) Perkey, Joy (Ivan) Hanshaw; two step daughters, Kim (Kathy) Craddock Lawrence, Karma Craddock Vaughn; 7 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and extended family members.
He proudly served in the 1st Infantry Division in Germany & France from January 1943 to 1945 during WWII. He was employed at South Point Allied Chemical for 14 years and retired from Aristech Chemical in Wayne County, WV, after 19 years of employment. He also worked 10 years as a Real Estate Agent. He was a long-standing member of the South Point Church of Christ. He enjoyed working with his hands in large gardens, orchards, caring for livestock and the construction/remodeling of multiple properties in the area. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dedicated his life to the care of his family. He was a friend to many and he will be greatly missed.
Henry’s devoted family believe a man of character builds deep, lasting relationships with his family and friends, just as a spiritual man cherishes his faith. A great man is one who meets both of these challenges in a single lifetime. Our father was such a man.
Connie, Mike, and Joy would like to express their appreciation and pride to all of our family members in the care of our Family Patriarch. A special thanks to Grandchildren, Penny Messinger, Randy Perkey and Great-grandchild, Cole Messinger for their many months and hours of care that allowed our father to remain in his home, surrounded by family. Your dedication allowed him to have the quality of life that we would not been able to provide without you. Also, a special thank you to Community Hospice for their kindness and support.
Friends are welcome to join Henry’s family in the remembrance and celebration of his life at his memorial service on Tuesday, September 5th, 1 PM at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, OH. Burial will follow at Highlawn Memorial Gardens, South Point, OH with Minister Mark Aites officiating. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 8850.
The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the South Point Church of Christ in his name. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
