Darwin H. Ellis, 93, of Chesapeake, OH, husband of Mina Ellis died Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Emogene Dolen Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Monday, March 24, 2014 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, Ohio with Dr. Kermit Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Getaway Cemetery, Getaway, Ohio. Darwin was born July 27, 1920 in Lawrence County, Ohio, a son of the late Elisha and Anna Ashworth Ellis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother; three sisters; and one granddaughter. Darwin was a veteran of the US Army and retired as a truck driver from Schwerman Trucking. He was a member of Symmes Creek Missionary Baptist Church and attended Harmony Baptist Church. Darwin is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mina Clonch Ellis; three children, Glenn (Karen) Ellis of Chesapeake, Ohio; Larry Darwin Ellis of Willow Wood, Ohio and John Hood of Willow Wood, Ohio; six grandchildren, Becky (Bryan) Gilpin, Jason (Teresa) Ellis, Larry (Kim) Ellis, Jr.; Kelly Ellis, Katie Ellis and Damon Hood; 9 great grandchildren; and also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
