Marvin Leon Layne, 65, of South Point, OH passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. He was a son of the late Paul Lawrence Dunbar Layne and Norma Edwards Layne. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Layne, Jr., Ronald Layne and Eugene Layne. Marvin was a member of Full Gospel Assembly Church in Huntington; a former employee of Sun Coke in Haverhill, OH; a 2010 Inductee into the West Virginia State University Sports Hall of Fame and enjoyed fishing and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Cumpston Layne; a son, Marvin Layne, Jr. and Shawna Layne of South Point, OH; daughters, Maria Layne-Stevens and Jesse Stevens of Greensboro, NC and Markessa and Wesley Hall of South Point; grandchildren, Hayley, David, Whitney, Alexandria, Brandon, Ethan and Emma Layne, Camille and Leila Hall, and Nicole Collier; great grandchildren, Kaiden and Kamron Layne; brothers, Harry Layne and Matthew Layne; sisters, Betty Brown, Shirley Oden, Gloria Greene and Patricia Layne Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews and good friends. A viewing will be held from 12 Noon to 1:30 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 with the funeral service to immediately follow. All services will be conducted at the Full Gospel Assembly Church, 2101 10th Ave., Huntington. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, the family will be accepting donations for the Hospice House in Huntington in Marvin’s honor. Donations may also be made to Hospice of Huntington at 1101 6th Ave., Huntington, WV.
