CARL VANCE, 75, of South Point, OH passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. He was born March 27, 1939 in Roth, VA, a son of the late George and Marie McCoy Vance (Hatfield & McCoy). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Vance Hurley. Carl was a former truck driver with Smith Transfer and retired Chief of Police with the South Point Police Department. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Chesapeake, OH; a Master Mason with South Point Lodge #497; and a member of Elks Lodge #177, Ironton, OH. Carl was an avid outdoorsman and loved being on the water. He is survived by his wife, Rita Ellen McGinity Vance; his children, Carla Vance Peay (Don) Hesseltine of Virginia Beach, VA, Carl “Rusty” Raymond (Kris) Vance of South Webster, OH, Christy Noel (Robert) Parsons of Chesapeake, and Matt (Amy) Vance of South Point; seven grandchildren, Barry Elliott Peay, III, Ashley Marie Peay, Jordyn Nicole Vance, Karrah Renae Parsons, Jaxon Matthew Vance, Lilyann Piper Vance, and Landon James Vance; a sister, Christine Keezee of Liberty, KY; a brother, Jim (Mary) Vance of South Williamson, KY; a brother-in-law, Larry Hurley of Ft. Myers, FL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Moran officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 PM.
