Cecil Robert Whitley, 90, of South Point, OH went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 1, 2014 at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center, Ashland, KY. He was born April 28, 1924 in Ashland, a son of the late Coy and Margaret Adams Whitley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dora May Stevens and Thelma Jean Reeves; a brother, Hubert Whitley; and 2 nephews, Jimmy and Charles Stevens. Cecil retired as a welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #248, Ashland. He was a lifelong member of Sunrise Church of the Nazarene, attended Ashland Public Schools, Ashland Vocational Schools, and was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II, having been stationed on a battleship in the Pacific Theater. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Delores “Dutch” Davidson Whitley; a daughter, Delores “Pug” Sloan of Ironton, OH; and 2 grandsons, Joseph Christian (Julie) Sloan of Fisherville, KY and their sons, Connor, Caiden and Caleb, and Matthew Raymond (Kelli) Sloan of Ironton and their children, Jacob, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Mattilyn Rose; and one niece, Linda Spear of Venice, FL. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, December 5, 2014 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Rev. Lenny Campbell and Rev. Gary Henry officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Chuck Austin, Tom Blake, Joe Sloan, Matt Sloan, Jacob Sloan, Jack Pemberton and Robert Davidson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Davidson and Ron Davidson.
