    Raphiel “Ray” Smoot, 75, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away February 2, 2015 at home. Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, OH. Ray was born March 7, 1939 in Chesapeake, OH, a son of the late Dexter and Georgia Hamlin Smoot. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Deloris and Garrett Whitley; and a brother and sister-in-law, Carlyle and Frances Smoot. He was retired from Fairland Schools as the head bus mechanic and a member of Rockwood Baptist Church. Ray is survived by his wife, Marcia Wilks Smoot; six children, Darrel Smoot of Chesapeake, OH; Lisa Jenkins, Proctorville, OH, Mike (Rina) Smoot of Proctorville, OH, Terri Smoot of Chesapeake, OH, Missy (Marty Sexton) Howard of Chesapeake, OH, and Joe Garrett of Chesapeake, OH; one sister, Donna (Darwin) Taylor of Dayton, OH; one brother, Jim (Debbie) Smoot of Chesapeake, OH; 11 grandchildren, Kristy White, Sara Smoot, Ashley Porter, Jerry Johnson, Brittany Jenkins, Jeremy Jenkins, Kelly Jenkins, Kory Smoot, Mikayla Garrett, Kyleigh Garrett and Damian Garrett; 13 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a best friend who stood by his side, Mike Donahoe; and a host of friends from Fairland School District. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to funeral home to help the family with expenses.
