    Larry James Akers, 70, of Ironton, OH died Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Ironton.  He was born January 8, 1947 in Greenup, KY, a son of the late James Akers and Marie Nichols Akers.  He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Michael Akers and Paul Akers; a brother-in-law, Bob Bledsoe; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Akers.  Larry fought a long battle with COPD.  He was of the Baptist faith.  Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Esta A. Coleman Akers;  a son, James (Courtney) Akers of Ironton; 2 grandchildren, Emileigh Akers and Landen Akers; 4 sisters, Patricia Bledsoe of Greenup, KY, Barbara (Beryl) Satterly of Grayson, KY, Karen (Rickey) James of Pickens, SC and Janice (Paul) DeHart of Westerville, OH; and 4 brothers, Patrick (Judy) Akers of Waverly, OH, Daniel (Kim) Akers of Kitts Hill, OH, Alvin (Robin) Akers of New Carlisle, OH and Gregory Akers of Centerburg, OH.  Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, OH with Danny Haydon officiating.  Burial will follow in Community Cemetery, Ironton.  Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.  Condolences to the family  may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
